Manufacturer Software Updates

Manufacturers release software updates throughout a vehicle's production life to address known faults, improve calibration of engine and transmission control systems, resolve drivability complaints, and fix issues identified through warranty data. These updates are applied to control modules using the manufacturer's native diagnostic software — not aftermarket tools — and require a live connection to the manufacturer's server to validate and authorise the update.

Software updates resolve a wide range of issues that drivers may have assumed are hardware problems: rough idling that turns out to be a fuelling calibration issue, an 8-speed automatic gearbox that hunts between gears because of a shift strategy fault, a DPF regeneration cycle that triggers unnecessarily due to a PM sensor calibration error, or a cold-start emissions fault that turns out to be an injector timing table that the manufacturer has since corrected.

We carry out software updates via BMW ISTA, Mercedes-Benz Xentry, and Ford IDS for all models supported by those platforms. For other manufacturers, we use multi-brand professional tools that support manufacturer-level programming on a range of vehicles. We check available updates for your vehicle at the time of any diagnostic visit and advise where an update is relevant to the fault being investigated.
