Manufacturer Software Updates

We apply manufacturer software updates using BMW ISTA, Mercedes Xentry, and Ford IDS — the same tools used by main dealers — to resolve known faults, drivability issues, and persistent fault codes.

Why book with us

Manufacturer Software Updates with clear advice.

Manufacturers release software updates throughout a vehicle's production life to address known faults, improve calibration of engine and transmission control systems, resolve drivability complaints, and fix issues identified through warranty data. These updates are applied to control modules using the manufacturer's native diagnostic software — not aftermarket tools — and require a live connection to the manufacturer's server to validate and authorise the update.

Software updates resolve a wide range of issues that drivers may have assumed are hardware problems: rough idling that turns out to be a fuelling calibration issue, an 8-speed automatic gearbox that hunts between gears because of a shift strategy fault, a DPF regeneration cycle that triggers unnecessarily due to a PM sensor calibration error, or a cold-start emissions fault that turns out to be an injector timing table that the manufacturer has since corrected.

We carry out software updates via BMW ISTA, Mercedes-Benz Xentry, and Ford IDS for all models supported by those platforms. For other manufacturers, we use multi-brand professional tools that support manufacturer-level programming on a range of vehicles. We check available updates for your vehicle at the time of any diagnostic visit and advise where an update is relevant to the fault being investigated.

Resolves known-fault codes

Many persistent fault codes are caused by software calibration errors that a manufacturer update will fix.

Transmission and engine updates

Shift strategy, fuelling calibration, DPF regeneration cycles, and cold-start enrichment all update via software.

Software update service includes

Clear expectations, no surprises. If anything extra is needed, we explain it first.

  • Current software version read and cross-referenced against latest manufacturer release for your vehicle.
  • Fault code scan before and after update to confirm resolution.
  • Software update applied via manufacturer platform (BMW ISTA, Mercedes Xentry, Ford IDS, or equivalent).
  • Post-update live data monitoring to confirm correct module operation.
  • Relevant adaptations reset where required after software update (idle, throttle body, gearbox learning).

Common questions

Can a software update fix fault codes and drivability issues?
Yes — many persistent fault codes and drivability complaints are caused by calibration errors in the original factory software that the manufacturer has subsequently corrected. Common examples include rough idle caused by fuelling calibration, automatic gearbox hunting caused by a shift strategy fault, and DPF regeneration issues caused by PM sensor calibration errors. A software update is often cheaper and more effective than replacing hardware.
Do you need manufacturer tools for a software update?
For a proper manufacturer-specification update, yes. Manufacturer native tools (BMW ISTA, Mercedes Xentry, Ford IDS) connect directly to the manufacturer's server to validate the update and authorise the programming session. Aftermarket tools can sometimes reflash modules but cannot apply authorised manufacturer updates or write the correct variant coding after an update.
Will a software update affect my car's performance or fuel economy?
Manufacturer software updates are calibration corrections — they return the car to how it was meant to perform from the factory, correcting errors introduced at initial programming. In cases where the original software had a fuelling or timing calibration error, an update can improve economy or smooth drivability issues. Updates do not modify performance beyond manufacturer specification.
